Barnianne, a Pembroke Welsh Corgi (9 weeks).
As you can see, her color is a little different than most Corgis. That's because she's a Whitely

The 'handoff' in Lansing, MI. Millie, Barni & Carrie (3/20/02) Sue Peterson who did the driving to Lansing didn't want to put Barni down .. can you blame her?

The Barnianne Story
| Barnianna is a very very
special baby and holds a very
very special place in the hearts of many people who have
spent a lot of time keeping her in their daily prayers.
First of all, she was named after President Barney Noel, da Corgihuahua. He lives in Tennessee with his sister, Paris Lynn and brother, Chester Bruno (Chessie) and SusieMom and Waynedaddy. Susie Noel She had to be hand raised by her Milliemom because of a suspected cleft palate. She was unable to suck. This was later confirmed and she was scheduled for surgery to repair it. The surgery was performed at Michigan State University by Dr. Richard Walshaw and was a complete success. (Well .... from this OSU Buckeye's prospective ... at least Barnianne's a Spartan and not a Wolverine! <VBG>) Then, too ... she is very small (at 11 1/2 weeks of age, she only weighed 4 pounds-1 ounce) and will always be a tiny little girl. She's been dubbed the 'Little Spotted Teacup Doodlebug Corgi'. But as my friend, Millie Williams (and Barnianna's dedicated breeder) said, "I know The Boss sent her with a few flaws but He always puts in extra of other things when He does this." We truly believe that! ...Carriemom & Ed-daddy Hutchman along with her new brothers, Teddy & Pookie. |
Here's our first attempt at puppy painting for CorgiAid!

Her purple nose just cracks me up! She decided this was pretty good tasting stuff!

Da poor widdle artiste was just worn out so I let her take a nap before we hit the bathtub! I learned the hard way that this was NOT a one person activity so the next time we paint, I'll wait until I have help! LOL! Her widdle bunny butt was sooooooooo colorful but by picture taking time, she wasn't going to cooperate any more for ANYTHING, let alone pictures! I had finger paints all over me, my clothes, the storm door, the bathroom floor, the leash and the front porch
Our last painting session, I decided to do on the kitchen table covered with plastic and enlist the aid of Ed-Daddy! It went much smoother and was a little less messy. LOL!

This is a sample of her work. All in all this was a very successful venture for CorgiAid. I think they raised over $200.00 counting the Silent Auctions at the Michigan and Ohio picnics this year.
Here's her latest venture ... KNITTING!
![]() |
This is what greeted me the other day when I walked into the family room! I foolishly left the dishrag I was knitting lay on the foot stool and left the room. Notice the 2 socks? Besides the knitting, she even helped herself to some fresh socks from the laundry basket that was also in the room.

How could anyone get mad at that face? Besides she didn't do any real damage and even if she had, it's only a dishrag!

You can see the cancer (Oral papillary squamous cell carcinoma) starting to grow in the picture on the left. This picture was taken the night before we left for Lansing. This is her surgeon, Dr. Marta Agrodnia (in green) and the Vet Intern, Robin. This picture was taken 2 days after the surgery. Dr. Agrodnia said in some respects we were lucky because Barnianne's lower jaw was longer than it should have been in the first place. If you're in the Midwest and you find your dog has cancer and needs surgery, the only Vet schools that have an oncology department are MSU and University of Illinois. If you have an orthopedic problem, then The Ohio State University is the place to go. (I've since been told by another vet here in Marion the OSU Veterinary School plans to purchase the Ortho Voltage Radiation machine.)

Here she is, home at last, 2 days after surgery! She looks really tired but so much better than we hoped. You really can't tell she's had a partial mandibulectomy unless you see her from the side and then she looks pretty darn good!
Starting Monday, September 30th, we go back to MSU once a week for 5 weeks for a radiation treatment.

HEY! Where you going, Millie? |
And Aunt Susie from Tennysea sent me a new ruffle for Easter. Purple is the color for royalty, you know. |

The picture on the left is before using Angels' Eyes. Although the first
picture doesn't show her eyes, believe me when I say they were as bad
as her throat.
As of January 2008 we have learned Barnianne has a whole new set of problems. It started with a horrible sinus infection that took lots of antibiotics to cure. We're thankful they worked because we didn't even want to think about what it could have meant if they hadn't.
While we were at the Polar Bear Picnic in Tennysea, a couple of friends pointed out that her gait wasn't quite 'right' so, soon as we got home we went back to the Vet. After X-Rays, we learned she has only a partial hip socket on her left hip, a bad knee, a torn ACL, hip dysplasia and horrible arthritis. Our options weren't very good. We could spend big money on fixing the ACL and bad knee, but she'd still have the arthritis, a partial hip socket and HD. We decided to do whatever we could to make her as comfortable as possible. We started by putting her on Adequan shots and so far, she'd doing wonderful. Her jumping days are over .... no more getting on the sofa to direct the squirrels at their feeder unless someone helps her up. That's what we're here for, isn't it? We consider ourselves to be her 'Staff'. <VBG>
